The XIV Foresight Training Course brought together distinguished experts from the European Medicines Agency, national regulatory authorities, academia, and the pharmaceutical industry to explore the multifaceted impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on healthcare systems and regulatory frameworks.

The course examined the extraordinary regulatory measures adopted at both international and national levels in response to the health emergency. These measures included rapid authorization procedures and new models for collaboration between regulatory agencies and health stakeholders. A significant portion of the discussion focused on the lessons learned during the pandemic and how they could shape the evolution of the European healthcare system, including potential improvements in resilience and responsiveness.

Decentralized clinical trials were highlighted, with insights offered from both corporate and academic research perspectives. The importance of using and sharing health data emerged as a core theme, with real-world case studies showcasing the application of artificial intelligence, federated learning, FAIR data principles, patient registries, and real-world evidence in healthcare research and regulation.
