On Monday, 3 December, in Rome, at “Palazzo Marini” took place the third and last appointment of the cycle of meetings “Research, Innovation and Competitiveness: which advantages for the country and the patients?” organized by the Cultural Association “Giuseppe Dossetti: i Valori” in collaboration with Fondazione Gianni Benzi.
Entitled “The drug: a driving sector for Research and Development? from Industry 2015 to Horizon 2020”, the conference aimed to stimulate a debate on the situation at the time in the field of innovative drugs, as well as on the financing status for research and innovation in the field of medicines in Italy, in order to place it in the European context.
The final objective was to facilitate collaboration between operators of the public and the private sector.
To this end, plans of research and development, promoted and implemented up to that date, their state of realization and the reasons for any failure in fulfillment were presented. In addition, the potential of the main research “organizations”, including Networks and Platforms, and the state of the public-private integration were discussed.
After the success of the last two initiatives, which discussed interesting topics such as clinical trials and the destiny of the drug after its approval, the cycle ended with a reflection on the lack of funding for research and innovation, the low efficiency due to scarcity of infrastructure, and the difficulties in European and international cooperation.
