On Thursday, November 15, 2012, a conference titled “Medicines: which destiny after the authorisation?” took place in Rome at “Palazzo Marini.” The event was organized by the Cultural Association “Giuseppe Dossetti: i Valori” in collaboration with the “Gianni Benzi” Pharmacological Research Foundation.
This marked the second appointment of the series of meetings titled “Research, Innovation and Competitiveness: which advantages for the country and the patients?”. Fondazione Gianni Benzi and the Cultural Association “Giuseppe Dossetti: i Valori” expressed hope that the conference, while highlighting the drug development process from authorization to final patient availability, would provide a basis for a critical evaluation of the procedures that dictate different destinies for drugs across various countries and regions.
The objectives were:
– To classify new drugs based on European legislation.
– To discuss the effective availability of innovative medicines for patients, especially those for ontological, pediatric, and rare diseases.
– To illustrate the pricing and reimbursement system established at the national level.
– To describe the use of regional procedures for introducing new therapies for patients and in the governance of health expenditure.
– To evaluate the diversity of regional situations in relation to essential levels of health assistance.
Prof. Francesco Profumo, the Minister of Education, University and Research; Prof. Renato Balduzzi, the Minister of Health; Sen. Emanuela Baio, the Secretary of the Senate President’s Committee; and Mr. David Sassoli, a Member of the European Parliament, were invited to the event along with other national and regional representatives of the scientific world.
The event was organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Health, ASSOGENERICI, SIMMESN, ANAAO–ASSOMED, ASSOBIOTEC–FEDERCHIMICA, FNOMCeO, and the Province of Rome.
