The first InNerMeD-I-Network Open Conference was held in Frankfurt on March 7th – 9th, 2014 (attached the scientific programme of the workshop).

The meeting was aimed to enable the exchange of information among clinicians, basic scientists, experts specialised on inherited neurometabolic diseases (iNMDs), but also pharmaceutical companies and patient associations.

Professor Adriana Ceci participated in the conference, discussing the possible implications of the change of the European regulatory scenario of clinical trials on the research for iNMDs: “Considering that these diseases are rare, life-threatening, paediatric and genetic, the research activity is very challenging and needs strong incentives.” The simplification of procedures, foreseen by the Proposal for a Regulation on clinical trials on medicinal products for human use, and the launch of the new European funding program Horizon 2020 could represent a good opportunity to incentive the development of new treatment approaches for iNMDs.

The meeting culminated with the presentation of the project InNerMeD-I-Network, its objectives and development process, its strategic relevance, its methods and means with particular attention to the dedicated website platform.
