On May 5th, the President of Fondazione Gianni Benzi, Prof. Adriana Ceci, served as the moderator of the first session of the event “Il bambino emofilico III…Generazione futuro”, held in Bari at Villa Romanazzi Carducci. The session was attended by outstanding experts from across the country.

Hemophilia had recently come into the spotlight for many reasons: as a monogenic disease, it was considered potentially curable through gene therapy; more and more hemophiliacs were reaching old age with a good quality of life; and the current replacement therapies had a significant pharmacoeconomic impact.

Treating the haemophilic child meant placing them at the center of a complex healthcare system, where the pediatric hematologist led the implementation of good clinical practice. Local healthcare providers needed to be aware of the basics of hemophilic child care and to know how to communicate effectively with reference centers.

This meeting was intended as an opportunity for debate and to help overcome the prejudices that still affected young patients with bleeding disorders.
