The Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) approved the feasibility project ‘H-BIO Puglia’ to be realised in the framework of the Italian National Operational Plan for Research and Competitiveness 2007-2012. Fondazione Gianni Benzi represents a full partner of this exciting project which has been listed 4th among the 32 approved applications.
H-Bio aims at creating a High Technology District in the field of health and biotechnology with the aim of enhancing innovation in the manufacturing system in the Italian Region of Apulia. The project will be implemented by an important network involving universities, research centres and biotech companies, with the intention to respond to fundamental social needs: on the one hand the need of the citizens to safeguard their right to ever more advanced and innovative therapies, and on the other hand the need of research and development that try to meet this demand.
The main areas of interest of the District are represented by the development of personalised medicine, advanced therapies and diagnostics and new manufacturing processes. The project involves a total of 36 partners, among which the University of Bari (coordinator), the Universities of Foggia and Lecce and the Politecnico di Bari, the National Research Centre (CNR) and Fondazione Gianni Benzi and 19 private companies.
