The initiative “Patents, Biotechnology and Innovation in the Apulia background” promoted by Fondazione Gianni Benzi in collaboration with ARTI (Regional Agency for Technology and Innovation), has come to end.
The event has been organised for the Festival of Innovation held in the Fiera del Levante in Bari.
This event, full of concrete opportunities to compare and to learn, has been very interesting for all present, becoming a meeting point between research and companies and between science and society. Furthermore, it has represented a view on the Biotech field for young researchers. The initiative aim was to describe biotechnological research in Apulia and its future developments.
Preliminary findings about the ongoing investigation on research structures, innovative products, spin-off and small companies involved in the Biotech field have been shown thanks to the contribution of Apulia University and CNR (National Research Council) professors, Vice-president of the Apulia region and representatives of Assobiotec and Farmindustria.
Fondazione Gianni Benzi activity has been presented.
This activity concerned administering a questionnaire for the analysis and description of biotech entities in loco and organizing activities and regional forum aimed at strengthening connections between small biotech centers in Apulia.
Besides promoting new biotechnological patents and company innovation processes, other goals are describing the biotechnological research background in Apulia, its future developments and creating contacts among universities, research centers, public administration, small biotech companies and spin-off. This is in agreement with the Gianni Benzi Foundation’s goals.
These concern promoting the biological and pharmacological research, promoting the implementation of an advanced European pharmaceutical system and developing information activities about the safe use of drugs and other substances.
The Intellectual Property Rights issue has been addressed by legal, economic and scientific point of view, especially focusing on the life sciences.
Experts talked about ethical and legal implications in the national and international legislation for the protection of Intellectual Properties Rights, with particular reference to the life sciences.
In this context, the role of patents in enabling companies to leverage their investment in research and development has been emphasized.
The protection of Intellectual Property Rights plays a central role in encouraging investment in research and productivity.
