It was concluded the workshop entitled “From Nucleic Acid to Personalized Medicine: Innovative Approaches to Early Diagnosis and Therapy of Tumor Diseases” (Bari, May 14th 2013, University of Bari “Aldo Moro”) organised within the project “Towards the Personalised Medicines: Development of new selective molecules for the treatment of Neuroblastomas” funded by Fondazione CON IL SUD in reply to the call Sviluppo Capitale umano Alta Qualificazione 2011. The workshop was organised by the Institute of Crystallography of the Italian National Research Council in collaboration with the Gianni Benzi Pharmacological Research Foundation.
The day, full of concrete opportunities to discuss on the development of innovative selective molecules for advanced diagnostics and therapy of diseases with a high social impact, has excited the participants of the scientific field.
It was a full day aimed at strengthening the research in the field of innovative drugs based on oligonucleotide systems, the creation of a network that can support multi-disciplinary research and technology transfer and the advanced training of young researchers. Furthermore, this area of intervention is fully compatible with the regional guidelines in terms of Research and Competitiveness in the “Human Health and Biotechnology” sector and the project will promote the development of the biotechnology sector of the drug, contributing to the creation and/or consolidation of the concerning the development of innovative biotechnological processes for the production of pharmacologically active molecules.
The project “Towards the Personalised Medicines: Development of new selective molecules for the treatment of Neuroblastomas” will act as a catalyst for the attraction of new investments in the Apulia Region and will stimulate the growth and the competitiveness of the regional production system as the network of collaboration at local level can provide a multidisciplinary “structure”, aggregating and connecting the scientific and technological expertise present in the public and private partners of the Project, in support of pharmaceutical companies and/or other public institutions, for the development of new molecules with diagnostic or pharmaceutical action. This objective is of prime importance as there is a response to give to the high number of young graduates in the field of biotechnology and life sciences.
The workshop was attended by experts from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, from CNR, from the High-Tech District Biotechnology and Health (H-BIO Puglia), from Assobiotec, from DFM Scral, from AIRI, from Gianni Benzi Pharmacological Research Foundation, from University of Bari ‘Aldo Moro’, from University Naples ‘Federico II’ and from the Second University of Naples.
