The first edition of BIAT – Innovation and High Technology Lab, was held in Naples on December 10-12, 2014. It is an international event organised by ICE – Italian Trade Promotion Agency in the framework of the Export Sud Plan to support the Convergence Regions (Apulia, Calabria, Campania and Sicily).
The aim of BIAT is to support innovative companies, business networks, start-up, technology hubs and universities and to promote the commercialisation and/or the technology transfer of innovative products and services (including patents), through agreements of commercial distribution, technology cooperation, IP exploitation and licensing as well as national and international funding systems. The international event was mainly addressed to the following countries: Canada, United States, Sweden, United Kingdom, France, Israel, Germany, Austria, Belgium, China, United Arab Emirates and Russian Federation.
During the technical session of the Conference “Excellence Areas in the Convergence Regions, IP incentives and Financial Instruments for Innovation in Italy“, the H-BIO Puglia District “Health and Biotechnology”, was presented by Prof. Adriana Ceci, Vice President of the Scientific Committee of the Apulia Cluster. “The H-BIO Puglia District – explained Prof. Ceci – was established as a consortium comprising forty entities in the framework of the Italian National Operational Programme for Research and Competitiveness 2007-2013 (PON 2007-2010) and includes four technological areas: personalised medicine, innovative therapies, technology and services for advanced diagnostics and new manufacturing processes”. Prof. Ceci also emphasised that “the District H-BIO Puglia acts as the engine of the regional/national innovation in the field of Life Sciences, a system able to build a map of innovations, a generator of skills networks and new organisational forms for research, innovation and production in order to meet the social and economic challenges in the field of human health”.
