On 13th November 2013 the first certified database on medicinal products marketed in Italy has been released online and is available here.
The Medicinal Products Database has been created by the Italian Medicine Agency (AIFA) and contains the Summary of Product Characteristics and Package Leaflet of all drugs (more than 9000) approved by AIFA or by the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
It allows the consultation at any time and from any device, mobile or desktop and a simple and the rapid search that can be performed by trade name, active substance, or Marketing Authorisation Holder. All available documents are updated in real time. These features make the Medicinal Products Database particularly innovative.
This public platform is intended for all people who are interested in learning the information on medicines marketed in Italy and it is particularly useful for the health professionals who have the constant need to update their knowledge, and for patients who can understand better the benefits and the side effects of drugs they receive.
After 40 days of its release, the AIFA Medicinal Products Database has almost 25,000 visitors, demonstrating the continuous need for health information through the web. Therefore, it encourages to carry on with the important objective of guaranteeing the dissemination of independent and certified data provided through the availability of validated documents.
