The Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA) has published the 2025 Independent Research Call dedicated to rare diseases. The initiative aims to support studies on low-prevalence conditions that often lack commercial research investment due to limited market potential.
The call is addressed to all Italian researchers from institutions and organizations who intend to carry out non-commercial studies. Proposed studies must fall within one of the following research areas:
- Preclinical and clinical studies aimed at developing pharmacological therapies for orphan diseases. This includes drug repurposing initiatives that explore new therapeutic indications for existing medicinal products in the context of rare diseases.
- Preclinical and clinical studies focused on the development of plasma-derived orphan drugs.
Researchers can submit their proposals electronically until 12:00 noon on Wednesday, 23 July 2025, by following the application procedures detailed on the AIFA website.
