Prof Adriana Ceci, former President of Fondazione Benzi and current member of its Scientific Committee, has contributed to two international publications addressing important research issues for vulnerable patients.
The first article “Pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic characterization of clonidine and midazolam for sedation in children in intensive care” published in Pediatric Anesthesia, examines the use of clonidine and midazolam in children admitted to intensive care, with the aim of improving sedation management and ensuring safer treatment. This work originates from the European CloSed project (CLOnidine compared with midazolam for SEDation of paediatric patients in the intensive care unit), in which Fondazione Benzi participated as partner. Within the project, Fondazione Benzi actively contributed to regulatory and ethical activities, coordinated the dissemination work, and supported the overall project management. The article represents a concrete outcome of the international cooperation promoted by the foundation in the field of medicines for children.
The second paper “Characterizing local and systemic exposure to clobetasol propionate in healthy subjects and patients with atopic dermatitis” published in the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, investigates the application of a pharmacometrics model to predict the effect of skin lesions on the exposure to clobetasol, a widely used topical corticosteroid, in atopic dermatitis patients.
Together, these publications highlight Prof Ceci’s and the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to fostering a better understanding of paediatric medicines and promoting safer, more informed therapeutic practices.
