We are happy to announce the publication of a new scientific article titled “Sharing Data and Transferring Samples Within Pediatric Clinical Studies: How to Overcome Challenges and Make Them a Science Opportunity” in the MDPI Helathcare journal. In November 2025, this scientific publication was further recognised by being included in the Special Issue “Data Driven Insights in Healthcare” of the Healthcare journal.
This work, conducted within the framework of the EPIICAL consortium, features contributions from our researchers Annalisa Landi, Viviana Giannuzzi, and Adriana Ceci, highlighting our collaborative dedication to advancing a regulatory-compliant and ethically-sounded pediatric research.
The article delves into some of the most pressing challenges faced in pediatric clinical research, particularly regarding the ethical and legal complexities of sharing data and transferring biological samples across boundaries. It emphasizes the importance of involving ethics and regulatory experts in multi-national studies, ensuring transparency, compliance, and trust among all stakeholders involved. Furthermore, the authors provide insightful recommendations on how challenging data and samples sharing can be transformed into science-driven opportunities, fostering collaboration and innovation within the field.
The outcomes of this study aim to enhance the efficiency of pediatric clinical research while safeguarding the rights and well-being of young patients. These findings are pivotal for researchers, policymakers, and institutions striving for excellence in pediatric healthcare innovation.
