The collection of journalistic contributions for the "Journalists against doping" Award organized by Fondazione Gianni Benzi will be concluded in September 2008. To date, as a result of the upsurge of disqualifications and scandals related to doping during the last Olympic Games in Beijing, more than twenty contributions have been selected among those received by the Foundation.
The assignment will take place (according to the Regulation) on the decision of the Jury of the Prize, made up of Sergio Rizzo (deputy director of Corriere dello Sport), Giuseppe Toti (journalist of Corriere della Sera), Sandro Donati (sports teacher and antidoping), Pasquale Bellotti (doctor), as internal members of the Foundation, and also by Felice Salvati, representing the National Federation of the Italian Press and by Luigia Trabace, representing the National Commission for Doping Supervision. Senator Mariapia Garavaglia will preside over the work of the Jury.
The "Journalists Against Doping Award" intends to remember and enhance the important contribution made over the years in the fight against doping by Gianni Benzi, both through scientific research and through continuous personal testimony aimed at unmasking the false myths of the doped medals . Since, as always on the great occasions of sport, doping reappears in the sports news with greater media coverage, the prize, addressed to journalistic contributions or even television reports, has been linked to the great sporting event of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
Through this award, the Gianni Benzi Foundation intends to enhance the work of those journalists who talk about doping in its various aspects with professionalism and competence, aware that it is very difficult to come across journalistic contributions that are both interesting, motivated, adequate and capable to interest the general public, with particular reference to children and young people.
The contributions collected by the Foundation and those freely sent or reported by the authors and received by 30 September 2008 at the following addresses will participate in the selection:
